About Stacie

Hello! Welcome to my virtual studio!

Here you get a peek of what I like to call The Rest of the Story as it relates to my creative output via metal jewelry, teaching, writing and photography.

I am a huge believer in using a creative craft as a vehicle to know yourself better– to be able to drive into my passions in life using beads, wire and sheet metal as my getaway car has allowed me to visit the land of Photography, an ever changing landscape depending on my moods, and process what I learn from these visual trips via the written word.

That’s what this website is all about….taking what’s in my soul…and turning it into substance

My metalwork, writing, photography and now…doodling (yes! really!) is helping me discover aspects of myself that had been hidden for years.

And I want to share what I am discovering with you!

Here’s my professional Bio Bit (the snip for PR types…)

After graduating from college with a degree in Technical Writing, Stacie and her husband left Arkansas for Oregon. A friend in Washington state introduced her to beads, which in turn, led her to metalsmithing. Stacie has traveled extensively with her husband around the United States and Asia,  honing her design and metalsmith skills. While living in Singapore, the artist Chankerk taught her how to really  ’see’ shape and form. Back in the States, she had a metalsmith studio in downtown Chattanooga for two years, leaving again with her husband on an adventure filled year and half long tour of the United States in 2009. On this last trip, she studied wax carving and lapidary skills in Black Mountain, NC with noted jeweler John Beirle; mined for quartz crystals in Hot Springs, Arkansas; was a featured artist at the Arkansas State Capital for a month; discovered a lapidary artist in Taos, NM whom she uses his stonework exclusively in her designs; collaborated with noted Porcelain artist Katie Swenson in Eugene, OR for her show, “Poems in Clay”, and is currently working from her home studio in East Tennessee.

And in my own words:

As a Metalsmith I view metal as a living element. When I use my chasing hammer on sterling silver or copper, the metal seems to flow like water until it is shaped into the form I imagined.  I love the versatility of metal; you can make a shape organic or geometric, depending on what you are trying to convey.  I love how jewelry can be the ultimate in abstract art. I am going for a feeling; a way of looking at life organically and with reverence.  To put this feeling in form is my passion. To see my ideas of life as a means of personal expression is the ultimate thrill when I see a woman wearing one of my pieces.
As a Writer: Self expression comes in many forms, and I have always been a prolific writer. I journal, I scribble and I dabble in non-fiction and fiction, or my favorite, creative non-fiction. I went to college and graduated with a degree in Technical Writing, but as with most degrees, I ventured into something else entirely in the real world! But with my blog and website, I finally get to merge the two things I love to do!
As a Photographer: I am an amateur, but I think with digital cameras, there is no reason not to snap meaningful moments in your life. My love for “the click” grew out of having to photograph my jewelry for the internet and blossomed from there. I am a prolific traveler, and sometimes, words fail to capture what only a photograph can. I shoot a lot, and appreciate great photographers and their work.
