INSPIRATION:
Mixed metal that has that fine, aged look is one of my favorite combinations!
I wanted to make a rectangular pair of everyday mixed metal earrings that still have a lot of details. There is a copper rivet with a brass and heavily textured brass element that mixes well with these oxidized sterling silver earrings. They are small(ish) earrings that have a lot going on.
HOW ITS MADE:
Sheet metal that looks pristine is beaten with a variety of textures and hammers that I've been collecting for years. I punch it out, texturize and form it, then age it for about 6 hours in a bath of liver of sulfur and a variety of tumbling media. I pin and rivet the rectangles and brass bit, and add my very sturdy and reliable ear wire for a long-lasting earring. These will not wear out during your lifetime.
Please understand that each pair really is quite unique...the patina and hammering will be slightly different due to the process I utilize to make them. Hammering and distressing metal is very individual!
MEASUREMENTS:
Total length is 1.5 inches. Dangle length is about 3/4 of an inch.
Width is about 1/4 of an inch...a little more or less depending on the way I hammer it at the time.
